I wouldn’t exactly call myself a mad sports fan, but I do enjoy watching most sports and funnily enough, I have probably been to more sporting events around the world than I actually realised!
I do try to always attend at least one sporting event in every country that I visit, not necessarily because I love the actual sport itself, but I just love emerging myself into the culture of a country and its people around sport. Sport is universally “a way of life” and it is the perfect opportunity for you to get a true insight into this, even in just the space of a few hours.
It’s a fantastic experience as you sit amongst the locals, watching their passions soar as they cheer on their teams.
Whilst there are some amazing Bucket List Sporting events around the globe, you don’t necessarily need to attend one of these to gain the experience I mention. I have had some incredible experiences at a local Thai kickboxing night or a high school rugby match in Fiji – getting out their and amongst the locals and just experiencing their lives around sport is amazing.
Whether you are into sport or not, do your research and seek out some local events – you will soon see how incredible this can be for your overall travel experience!
But for those who like to travel specifically for the major sporting events, there are an abundance of sports to choose from across the entire years calendar!
From the USA with an abundance of sports to choose from, including NBA, NFL, baseball, ice hockey, to major horse racing events like Kentucky Derby, Breeders Cup, Belmont Stakes, The Preakness Stakes, Prix de l’Arc de Triomph, The Royal Ascot, The Grand National, The Dubai World Cup, or tennis tournaments like the US Open and Wimbledon, golf tournaments like the US Masters, The British Open or Ryder Cup, cricket test series like The Ashes or World Cup, The Tour De France, Monaco Grand Prix, a Premier or Champions League football match, Rugby World Cup, the London or New York Marathons or the Olympics –
Whatever it is, if its on your Bucket List I can certainly draw on my own experiences to help you tick those off!
