For many cruise holidays, the actual ship and the facilities that it has to offer are as much about the actual destinations it will visit. The cruise ship itself is THE destination! Most cruises offer nightly entertainment which may include comedians, Vegas style cabaret productions, magicians, theatre performances and other live acts. They also offer lots of activities to cater for all markets, including dance lessons, bingo, aerobics classes, yoga, art auctions, photography lessons, casino, bars, nightclubs and kids clubs operating throughout the day and night to keep the little ones entertained.
Whilst up on deck, there are swimming pools, lots of deck chairs for sunbathing and usually day time entertainment by a live band or movies on the big screen by the pool.
Some of the larger cruise ships now also have waterslides, ice skating rinks, rock climbing walls, mini golf courses, dodgem cars, and even surf simulation and wave generators where riders can simulate surfing or body boarding.
All of this can be enjoyed whilst cruising between your different ports of call, and then when the ship docks you have a new destination to go and explore for the day.
In saying all of this, not all bucket list cruise destinations should be experienced on massive cruise ships. Sometimes it truly is more about the actual destination and therefore it is more appropriate to cruise on a smaller vessel such as a yacht or an exhibition vessel. This allows you to cruise into all the little nooks and coves to visit islands that big cruise ships simply cannot get into. This is certainly true for places like the Croatian or Greek Islands, Galapagos, Antarctica and Arctic cruises. Similarly, experiencing Europe on one of many luxury river cruises is a great way to see many destinations and countries and only need to unpack once.
So whether you are a first time cruiser or someone who proudly owns up to be a cruiseaholic, its now time to choose your next bucket list destination and let me help you decide which cruise ship would be most suitable for you!
